VietNamNet Bridge - The largest and most modern salvage ship of Vietnam was launched yesterday, November 6, in the central city of Da Nang by the Song Thu Company, a member of the Defence Industry General Department under the Ministry of Defence.

The ship, coded 9001, has a capacity of 3,500CV and is equipped with anti-fire guns, decompression rooms for divers, and lifebuoy equipment.

It can work for 30 days consecutively within a range of 3,000 miles. Therefore, the ship can effectively participate in saving and relief activities within the Vietnamese water territory and in the region, particular in the wake of typhoon Chanchu or Xangsane.

Lieutenant general Pham Tuan, Chairman of the Defence Industry General Department, said that this ship was built within 17 months by Dutch technology. The Song Thu Company will continue to build a similar salvage ship for the Vietnamese sea police forces next year.

On the same day in Da Nang, Song Thu Company put into operation a ship lifting board provided by the Rolls - Royce group, with a lifting capacity of 1,400 tonnes. This is the most modern ship lifting system in the world now, which is used in developed countries like the US, the UK and Japan. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam is the second country after Singapore that has this system.

Song Thu Company is cooperating with Dutch partners to research and build multipurpose ships to solve oil-spill accidents to serve the Dung Quat oil refinery project and to serve economic development in the central region and to build four tug vessels to export to Europe.
